CAUTION -

Some
people are using several of the items that we sell to upgrade their
TiVo. You must understand that this is dangerous.
High voltages are present inside your TiVo and you can be hurt if
you open the case. You must also understand that it WILL VOID YOUR TiVo WARRANTY.
Simply put, this means that it WILL VOID YOUR TiVo WARRANTY
if you open your TiVo. Like as in don't call or email me or
TiVo or Philips or Sony or anybody else if you damage
something. Don't even touch those Torx screws
unless you fully understand this and are prepared to toss it in
the trash can if something goes wrong. Also understand that
future software upgrades
that TiVo sends your TiVo may not run on a modified unit and that TiVo, at
anytime, could disable any or all of the additional space that
is added to a TiVo. They could also stop sending guide
data to a unit, until it is returned to its original
condition. Currently, TiVo is playing pretty, but we have
no idea what the future brings. Please understand all of
this before deciding to upgrade. The
products that 9th Tee sells are brand new and have the full
manufacturers warranty. We do not provide any application
specific warranty.

Well, enough of that...
TiVo Mounting Bracket with HardwareStop using duct tape and Velcro! This is the best way to mount your upgrade hard drives. The TiVo Hard Drive Mounting Kit includes the bracket, vibration dampners and required mounting hardware. Our Standoff Kit is required in some TiVo models if they do not include side standoffs. See the picture below. If your TiVo does not have the two mounting posts on the side, you will need our Standoff Kit.

Our thoughts about Series 2 Hacking Our Series 2 Bracket solution does not require the removal of the factory installed drive. This is important. As with any factory modification, the fewer changes that are required, the better. If you do not have to touch a component, especially the hard drive, then don't. Our Series 2 brackets are designed with industry standard vibration dampners and will give you a quieter running TiVo. Just attach our custom Series 2 bracket to the TiVo frame and hook up the cables. And speaking of quiet, remember that adding any additional electrical motors to the TiVo WILL increase the noise level. A motor can be in a hard drive and also in a fan. Several people have asked us about using additional fans to cool the TiVo after a hard drive upgrade. From our experience, this is just not needed and WILL increase the noise level. In our tests, a Series 2 TiVo with a second hard drive installed, does not exceed or even approach the high temperature limits that TiVo allows. So, keep the upgrade process simple. Don't move things that you do not need to move. Don't add things that you do not have to add. Don't touch things that you don't have to touch. That has been our philosophy since we started selling upgrade items for the TiVo nearly 5 years ago.
PTVupgrade SmartStart Power Supply ProtectorThe SmartStart Power Supply Protector is designed to protect your dual drive TiVo from stressful power spikes that occur during startup. Designed especially for the Series 2 TiVo, this device gently ramps both the logic and motor supply voltage to the disk drive, so that the demand on the power supply will be much lower. It uses all solid state components found in high end disk arrays. One fact that is universally agreed upon, is that any TiVo power supply can effectively sustain the operation of two disk drives during normal operation without cause for concern. What is not known, is the long term effect of the startup phase of the TiVo over it's lifetime. The SmartStart is the smart choice for protecting your dual drive TiVo during this critical time. Installation is super simple. Just unplug the power plug from the original disk drive, insert the male end of the SmartStart cable in the original disk drive and plug the power cable that was in the original disk drive into the female plug on the SmartStart. That's it! Is it better to give a PDF or receive one???
IDE Cable For TiVoAlthough not always necessary, here is an IDE Cable that will
work in a TiVo. The original TiVo drive cable is sometimes ok, but if you
need another cable, this is it. Also great for the newer TiVo's that
only have a single drive cable. This cable is custom manufactured and is
longer between the drive connectors than normal. Also, and this is very
important, you do not have to drill or cut out the blocking pin with our
cables.
TiVo Null Modem Serial CableSo you want to get a bash prompt but have lost the original serial cable included with your Stand Alone TiVo or have a DirecTiVo? Well, this cable is for you! It has a 1/8" stereo plug on one end that plugs into your TiVo or DirecTiVo and has a DB9 connector at the other that plugs into your PC's serial port. You can use the 10' Long extension cable if your computer is just too far away. Please note that longer cables runs may require lower data transmission speeds so try to use the 10' cable if possible.
TiVo Power Y-CableThis Y-Cable gives you the additional power connector required if one is not in your TiVo.
